Tips for Oily Hair!

Struggle with oily hair? I totally get it.

There’s nothing more annoying than taking a nice cleansing and refreshing shower, and waking up the following day and wondering why your hair is oily enough to fry an egg. Looking for some quick and easy tips on how to help oily hair? Keep reading…

1. Hair Wash Cycle

For someone who has naturally oily hair, it’s actually best to not wash your hair as often as you may think. Most people tend to go straight for the shampoo and assume they’re simply due for another shower when they feel their hair is oily. Washing your hair every day or even every other day, however, will result in your hair producing more oil because it’s trying to compensate for the oil lost. Basically, your sebaceous glands are confused.

It will take time to train your hair to get used to your new wash cycle, but with time, you will start to see results. We recommend to try and reduce your hair wash cycle to only 2 or 3 (at the very most) washes per week. I would wash it twice a week. When washing your hair, start off with warm water when washing so that it opens up your pores and cleanses, and when it comes time to rinse opt for cooler water so that your pores close.

Another great tip: minimize the use of conditioner. If you’re one to slather on the conditioner, try cutting it back to just a small amount or even skip it a few times each shower session to minimize oil build up, as it can activate oil production quicker. The proper way to use conditioner is putting it all throughout the length of the hair, because that is where the hair needs to be conditioned the most. The natural oils will take care of moisturizing the roots.

I know it can be tough leaving the house when your hair feels and looks oily, but here is a few hairstyles you can do.

2. Straight Hair vs Curly Hair

Have you ever noticed that you can usually go a day or two longer without washing your hair if you’ve curled it? If your hair lays flat and you’re guilty for straightening it often, try to lay low on the straightening products as the closer your hair is to your head and the straighter it is, the more oil it comes in contact with, and the easier it is for the oil to make its way down your hair.

3. Keep Your Hands Away From Your Hair

The twirling of hair or the brushing of your hair back that you subconsciously do throughout the day all contribute to the oil build-up you see in your hair. If you struggle keeping your hands away from your hair throughout the day, try tying it up in a bun at the beginning of the day so there are no temptations.

4. Dry Shampoo!!

Dry shampoo is a loved product by me. There are so many benefits to it, but the most obvious one is that it soaks up the oil in your hair and helps give the illusion of freshly washed hair, without the inconvenience and time it takes to actually wash your hair.

Other cool benefits of dry shampoo are, it acts as a texturizing spray and help provide extra volume at the roots, if you’re trying to create a more voluminous hair style. Be sure to only use a small amount as you can always add more, and don’t forget to massage it in well!

5. Reduce the Use of Hair Products

We understand that sometimes you may have to use a little bit of hairspray or mousse to perfect that curl or hairstyle, but many hair styling products like gels, mousses, and creams contain oils and other ingredients that can contribute to the buildup of hair oil. I would recommend to use a little amount of these products as you can.

Todays post is all about the best hair products for your Halloween look. Halloween hair can be the reason why your costume stands out! If you’re looking to temporarily colour your hair, add a frightening amount of volume, or keep your hair in place, then this post is just for you! Keep scrolling to see to see what needs to be achieved to perfect your Killer hairstyle!

  • Temporary Hair Colour: I know Crazy colours are quite a “no no” in some jobs but that’s why having temporary Hair colouring is great because when shampooed it washes out!

Hair chalk is the perfect way to add temporary colour to strands of your hair.If your hair is dark, wet your hair in the areas that you want to colour. If you have lighter strands (that’s you, blondies!), skip this step or else the colour will remain for a few more washes. Strand by strand run the calk up and down your hair until you’ve reached your desired colour.

Hair colour spray works perfectly on dry hair and comes in the prettiest of colours. It also washes out after one shampoo so don’t worry about scaring your coworkers when you return to work!

  • Wigs: For costumes that the hair plays the major part in, think Ariel, Cleopatra.  Cruella De Vil, rather than changing the whole colour of your hair a wig is best off for those kind of looks. If you really wanting to keep the wig in place and make sure nothing goes away, a wig cap is the best for helping to style your look.
  • Accessories: Compared to years ago, there are so many fun ways to accessorize your hair using items like plastic spiders and spider webs. Hairbands or chains are another great way to dress up an outfit!
  • Extra hold Hairspray: If your costume requires amazing big hair, Extra hold hairspray will be your Best Friend!  This will keep your hair in place for the whole day and night! Schwarzkopf Silhouette hairspray is the best!
  • Glitter: In my opinion all costumes can be made better with a hint of sparkle! If your looking to add that sparkle to your costume there is either loose glitter or hairspray glitter.
  • Hidden Props: Are you wanting to be a character that’s hair goes to a new level of height? First think of what you can use in your hair before backing coming your hair for dear life!! To achieve a Unicorn look you can use tin foil to shape the horn and than once sliped into place all that’s left is to wrap the hair around to cover the foil! .
